The lake is my beginning. I was born on its shores and have lived within walking or cycling distance all my life. Like me, the lake is born here and the result of actions of an invasive species, designed and constructed by humans over the river flats of the Molonglo river that have been transformed into Lake Burley Griffin.
The body of work River diary is an ongoing project which commenced in early 2020. It incorporates live performance with video projections, soundscapes, drawings and photographs. The sound and imagery was recorded at sites around and on the lake focusing on the interaction between environmental forces and human architecture.
The first phase of the project focussed on Sullivan’s Creek and was exhibited in late 2020 as part of Contour556 across two venues. Two huge charcoal drawings were exhibited at the Mixing Room Gallery at Thor’s Hammer and a series of performances were presented at the Sloughing Studio incorporating performers wearing head-mounted data projectors showing footage of the waters and architecture under the Mark Oliphant Bridge across Sullivan’s Creek.
